Michał Probierz: We are not giving up

Unfortunately, despite taking the lead in their first match at the European Championships, the Polish team suffered a 1:2 defeat against the Dutch. In the first half, Adam Buksa started the scoring after a header, but the rivals managed to equalise before the half time. The Poles fought back and were close to a draw, but the final blow was dealt by the "Oranje" team. The winning goal was scored by Wout Weghorst. "I would like to thank our fans who supported us. We very much regret that we did not manage to score an equalising goal in the end", said the head coach Michal Probierz after the match.

Michal Probierz on the match against the Netherlands:

"I told my players that we lacked football cunning. At some point we should keep the possession longer or be able to shift the play. We also needed to create more danger. However, we showed that we can play against a much stronger rival. Even though we lost, it's a very good sign ahead of the next meeting with Austria. All of us in the team believe that we are going in the right direction. We are not giving up because now we have to do everything to win the two remaining matches. We believe that as a team we will become more united and stronger. It was very important for me that we were able to play aggressively, pressing high up the pitch. We didn't back down; we accepted the challenge. However, in football there are times when you have to retreat into your penalty box. There is no avoiding that. I think the team was very well organised, but as I mentioned earlier, we lacked cunning and support. I know Bartek Salamon took the blame for the goal, but I don't think that's the case. He saved our team many times in difficult situations. We need to work on our mistakes. I was very calm during the match and it is regrettable that we did not manage to secure a favourable result."

On Bartosz Salamon's health:

"Bartek is now with a doctor and we will see how things are going with his health. I hope it's nothing serious and there is no fracture."

On Robert Lewandowski and Paweł Dawidowicz:

"Robert's rehabilitation is going in the right direction. There is a very good chance that he will be able to play in the match against Austria. He is certainly a very important player in our team and we hope he will be at his best. I also hope that Paweł Dawidowicz will also be fit and then the competitiveness in the team will increase a lot."

About the match against Austria:

"We will definitely be watching Austria's game against France and will prepare the team accordingly. We'll have to see how this match goes. We have not yet given up on this tournament. We will do our best to play smarter in the next game. A win against the Austrian team is crucial for us now."
