Michał Probierz: We created a spectacle full of emotions
The final match at City Cardiff Stadium was a real emotional roller coaster, as there was no shortage of drama. Everything was decided during the penalty kick competition, which happily ended for the Polish national team. In the fifth round Daniel James was beaten by Wojciech Szczęsny. "I think we created a really good spectacle full of emotions. However, only one squad could qualify," said coach Michał Probierz right after the match.
Welsh players put up a tough fight at Cardiff City Stadium. The hosts had moments where they were more dangerous than the Polish national team, but Wojciech Szczesny was unbeatable. "I would like to congratulate the Welsh team. I think we created a really good spectacle, full of emotions. However, only one team could qualify. We knew that our opponents are very strong, because coach Robert Page has created a well-functioning team. The rivals' head coach has recently changed the line-up, introduced young players to the team, which we saw today," said head coach Michał Probierz.
The Polish national team, playing on a tough ground, were able to eliminate the threats from the Welsh side. According to selector Michał Probierz, there was a lack of shots on goal, but he is nevertheless satisfied with his team's performance. "Our aim was to apply high pressing to the Welsh team. We knew the hosts were very threatening if we allowed them to flourish. We managed to eliminate that. They created a threat from set pieces, but were unable to score. We have warned our players that dangerous situations can also arise from throw-ins. We actually had a problem in the 45th minute, but the goal was not awarded. As for our team, I think we lacked shots on goal, the key pass. Nevertheless, I am satisfied because I think we played well. Many predicted our defeat, so this victory makes me even more happy," concluded the Polish national team coach.
