Michał Probierz: All we cared about were three points
"Of course I felt the thrill of the debut as a coach, but I wanted to be me. I'm not going to change my behaviour on the bench. I hoped my confidence would translate to the players' confidence on the pitch. Hats off to the team for winning this game," said coach Michał Probierz at a press conference after the 2-0 win against the Faroe Islands in Thorshavn.
"All we cared about were three points that would let us think about making it to the European Championships. We quickly scored the first goal, created more and more situations for ourselves, but then a little nervousness crept in, we didn't feel too confident on artificial turf. However, we started the second half well, increased the score and controlled the match until the end. We are very happy with the victory, but now we have to start preparing for the match against Moldova in Warsaw, which will be the most important for us," noted Michał Probierz.
Four players: Patryk Peda, Patryk Dziczek, Jakub Piotrowski i Filip Marchwiński made their debuts in the national colours in the match against the Faroe Islands. The biggest surprise was the presence of Patryk Peda who plays for SPAL in Italy Serie C on a daily basis. "I realise that there was a lot of uncertainty about Patryk Peda and a lot of negative opinions. But just like with chocolate, you never know what it tastes like unless you try it. I think Peda showed a very good performance. I'm satisfied with Patryk, he held his position, so it will now be easier for him to introduce the elements I require from him. I know his potential, I coached him in the youth team. As for the other first-timers, they have to work hard to play," the head coach admitted.
Piotr Zieliński took the role of captain of the national team, in the absence of Robert Lewandowski. "What kind of captain he was? Well, certainly a victorious one! It was obvious that he cared very much. He took on the burden of the game, made important plays and led the team. Kudos to him for that, because he has already played a lot of important matches this season. We wanted to replace him sooner today to let him rest, but we couldn't risk it," admitted Michał Probierz, who added that he didn't pay attention to Albania's parallel match against the Czech Republic (3-0).
"I didn't keep track of that match, because all my attention was on the match Against the Faroe Islands. It was only after the final whistle that we checked the score of the second group match. We are happy that everything depends on us. Therefore, we are already focused on the match against Moldova," he concluded.
