Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk home of the Polish women's national team!
The City of Gdańsk, the Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk stadium and the Polish Football Association are entering into a strategic partnership under which the stadium will become the official home of the Polish women's national team for the next three years. This will contribute to the further dynamic development of women's football in Poland. Female football players deserve their own stadium – just like PGE Narodowy is home for the men's national team.
The Polsat Plus Arena has hosted, among other events, matches of the 2012 European Championship, the 2021 Europa League final and matches of the Polish men's national team. The stadium, known for its modern infrastructure and excellent conditions for hosting international sporting events, will henceforth be the arena where our female footballers will fight for victories and win the hearts of fans.
The press conference announcing the cooperation was attended by Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk, Cezary Kulesza, president of the Polish Football Association, Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship, Agnieszka Pomaska, MP, Nina Patalon, head coach of the Polish national team, Paweł Buczyński, president of Arena Gdańsk Operator, and Jolanta Siwińska, a player in the Ekstraliga team AP Orlen Gdańsk. All of them unanimously stressed that this was a historic step, which would further increase interest in women's football in Poland.
"Gdańsk is a city with a rich sporting tradition. The amber Polsat Plus Arena has hosted events of such stature as the European Championship in 2012 and the European League final in 2021. The Polish men's national football team also played here. Now our Gdańsk arena will become the national stadium of the Polish women's national football team," says Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk. "Thanks to the agreement signed with the Polish Football Association, the Gdańsk stadium will play a key role in the development and promotion of women's football in Poland," she adds.
In recent years, the Polish Football Association has set up a Women's Football Department, developed a "Women's Football Strategy for 2022–2026", and is successively launching new projects to support and promote women's football. Now the federation has taken the next step and Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk will become the official home of the Polish women's national team.
"The development of women's football is one of the four main pillars of the federation's strategy. We are creating the best possible conditions for women's football to gain the attention and prestige it deserves. Hence the decision to host the European Under-19 Championship in 2025 and the Under-20 World Cup a year later. We are also applying to host the senior European championship in 2029. One of the steps towards popularising women's football is the selection of the stadium that will be home to the Polish national team. We are very pleased that Gdańsk has become this home as of today," emphasises Cezary Kulesza, president of the Polish Football Association.
"For years, the Pomeranian Voivodeship has been an important spot on the map of women's football in Poland, not only when considering the club teams that exist here, but also the fact that the stadiums in Gdańsk and Gdynia have repeatedly hosted matches of the Polish national teams, both friendlies and qualifiers, such as this year's qualifying round for the 2025 European Championship. This confirms the growing status of women's football, which is accompanied by an increase in the attractiveness and quality of matches, media interest and support from sponsors, the skills of the players – because they have never lacked commitment and a will to fight – and the increasing professionalisation of women's football in the organisational sphere, which in turn is confirmed by the idea of announcing a ‘Home of the Polish Women's National Team’", says Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship.
We are already looking forward to the first match at the home stadium of the Polish women's national team, which will take place on 29 October at 6:00 p.m. when we will face the Romanian national team in the play-offs for Euro 2025. We have an ambitious goal to break the attendance record for a women's national team match. The current record of 8011 spectators was set on 17 September 2021 at the Poland-Belgium match, which was also held at the stadium in Gdańsk.
"The Polish women's national team has gained a new home, but also tremendous prestige. From now on, Gdańsk will be associated with women's football and all our fans will be there with us. This is another step in the development of women's football in Poland and another initiative of the Polish Football Association, which confirms that it's "time for us!" points out Nina Patalon, head coach of the Polish women's national team as well as Women's Football Training Coordinator at the Polish Football Association.
With the announcement of the partnership (30.08 at 12:00 p.m.), the sale of tickets for the match between Poland and Romania begins. We invite everyone to purchase tickets via tickets.laczynaspilka.pl. Together we will write a new chapter in the history of Polish women's football!
