Poland to host the U-20 Women's World Cup in 2026!
The Polish Football Association has welcomed with great joy and satisfaction the decision of the International Football Federation to award Poland with the organisation of the final of the Women's U-20 World Cup, to be held in 2026. The choice was made at today's FIFA council held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
"Poland is a country with a great football tradition, which hosted the memorable 2019 edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, where rising stars such as Erling Haaland impressed the viewers. Hosting the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup will be a new milestone in the history of Polish football that will strengthen women's football in the country and around the world," said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
This is another international football event that the Polish Football Association has been entrusted with organising. It should be recalled that Poland will also host the UEFA European Women's U-19 Championship in 2025.
Women's football has been the focus area of Polish Football Association for many years and is an important part of its overall strategy – one of its four priority pillars. In November 2022, for the first time in the history of the Polish Football Association, a 'Women's football strategy in Poland for 2022-2026' was developed. It aims to set the directions for the development and popularisation of women's football in the country.
Meanwhile, at the end of October this year, the association launched a promotional campaign aimed at involving girls in the game of football. Its aim is to prove that football is not just a sport but, above all, an arena from which extraordinary life experiences and useful skills can be gained, regardless of gender. "Girls. Team not only on the pitch".
Remarkably, the Polish women's national team secured promotion to the A division during the historic Nations League edition in December. The team led by head coach Nina Patalon finished the group competition in first place with 16 points and a goal balance of 11-4. Now it is time for the next step.
