Polish Football for Ukraine! Supporting our Eastern Friends
The Polish Football Association is not indifferent to the suffering of the Ukrainian people, who are experiencing brutal aggression at the hands of the Russian Federation. On the initiative of President Cezary Kulesza, we are organising a campaign entitled "Polish Football for Ukraine". We encourage everybody to take part in the fundraising, which will be overseen by the Polish Red Cross. The Polish Football Association and Ekstraklasa S.A. have already pledged PLN 100,000 each.
"From the first hours of the escalation of military action by the Russian Federation, we have all been united and in solidarity with the Ukrainian people. At this difficult time, however, words of support are not enough, which is why we are organising the campaign entitled "Polish Football for Ukraine". Together with Ekstraklasa S.A., we have decided to make a contribution of PLN 100,000 each. This money will go directly to the Polish Red Cross, which will distribute the funds raised the best way they can. I would like to encourage you to support our fundraiser. At the same time, I would like to thank all those in the football community who are organising their own regional aid campaigns for Ukraine. We receive hundreds of reports of support coming from local sports clubs that start collections of necessities, etc. I am proud that we are showing the unity of the community. In these difficult times, it is moving and extremely encouraging," says Cezary Kulesza, President of the Polish Football Association.
The online fundraising will begin on 1 March alongside the upcoming Fortuna Polish Cup matches, and will continue during the nearest fixtures of PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa, Fortuna 1. Liga, eWinner 2. Liga, 3. Liga and Ekstraliga Woman. The whole Polish football family supports Ukraine! The fundraising will be carried out in cooperation with the Polish Red Cross.
Ukraine is experiencing the effects of the conflict that have lasted for almost eight years. Recent events have brought fear into the daily lives of people who are forced to leave their homes. If no urgent action is taken, large-scale humanitarian consequences can be expected. This is why the Polish Red Cross supports both refugees arriving in Poland by providing humanitarian and medical assistance, and the Ukrainian Red Cross, which helps in Ukraine. The support of the Polish Football Association and football fans will allow us to take immediate action to help," said Jerzy Bisek, President of the Polish Red Cross
