Marcin Dorna acting as the Sports Director of PZPN
The Management Board of PZPN appointed Marcin Dorna as the acting Sports Director of PZPN at the meeting held on Saturday. He will replace Stefan Majewski, who terminated his contract with the Association by mutual agreement on 16 September 2021.
Marcin Dorna was born in Poznań, Poland, on 17 September 1979. He started his coaching career when he was still a student at the Poznań University of Physical Education. He led under-9-under-11 teams in UKS GOSiR Dopiewo. After graduation, for several years, he trained Lech Poznań youth teams, as well as the (U-11-U-15) Wielkopolska Football Association team.
Marcin Dorna has been working for the Polish Football Association since 2008. He led Polish national teams in several categories, from U-15 to U-21. In 2012, he led the Polish under-17 national team to the semi-finals of the European Championship, which were played in Slovenia. A few months later, he was appointed as the head coach of the Polish under-21 national team under the decision of the Management Board of PZPN. He didn't manage to advance to the European Championship in 2015, although the promotion hung in the balance until the final moments of the qualifiers - ultimately, Poland needed one more point to qualify. Two years later, Marcin Dorna already led the Polish U-21 national team in the European Championship finals played on home soil. Unfortunately, the White-and-Reds did not go past the group stage.
After the championship, Marcin Dorna handed over the helm of the national team to Czesław Michniewicz and became the Coaching Deputy Director of PZPN, combining this function with leading the Polish under-15, under-17 and then under-16 national teams. He supported Paulo Sousa in his preparations for the UEFA EURO 2020 final tournament and was appointed as the acting Sports Director of PZPN in October.
He graduated from the Polish Football Association (PZPN) School of Coaches and holds the highest coaching qualification - the UEFA Pro licence, which allows him to lead any football team in the world. The National Game Model and its supplements were developed under the direction of Marcin Dorna, among others.
