Unexpected Concerns Panel of the Polish Football Association has approved the decision to use the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system in Fortuna 1. Liga Liga matches in the 2021/2022 season are currently being determined.

"We are very pleased that the VAR system will be implemented in the first league games as early as the 2021/2022 season. This means that we are one of the first federations in Europe to use this technology at two levels of domestic competition: both in the Ekstraklasa and the first league. We will also be the only football association in Europe to finance 100 percent of the system. The investment in VAR in the first league is yet another initiative of the Polish Football Association (PZPN), which is a part of the long-term plan to build the prestige and development of this competition," said Maciej Sawicki, Secretary General of PZPN.

"The introduction of VAR technology to the first league pitches is further proof that Fortuna 1. Liga is going in the right direction. We are convinced that this solution will positively influence the evaluation of our games. We would like to thank Polish Football Association for getting involved in this issue and improving the quality of first league matches," added Marcin Janicki, CEO of Fortuna 1. Liga.

All organisational details regarding the participation of the VAR system in Fortuna 1. Liga matches in the 2021/2022 season are currently being determined. The first league pitches will use a "light" VAR system that can operate with a minimum of four cameras. It is worth reminding that by the decision of the Polish Football Association all of Fortuna 1. Liga play-offs in June have already used the VAR system.
